Sycamore Trust visits William Ford
As part of National Autism Awareness and Acceptance week, we enjoyed a very special assembly on Tuesday. Autism Ambassadors from The Sycamore Trust, who work to support and advise children, young people and their carers within the borough and local area, came into school to visit us during their very busy week. The whole school was entertained with some very useful information about what autism is, what it is like to be autistic and how we can support others, including some interactive activities demonstrating what it might feel like to be on the autistic spectrum and how we can work in an inclusive way to support others. As always, our children proved to be a most attentive audience, responding with enthusiasm and were complimented on their understanding and awareness of what autism is. Both adults and children came away with ways to support others including giving more thinking time, reducing information overload and noise levels, body language and using pictures and signs. After the assembly, pupils took the Autism Ambassadors on a tour of our school which they very much enjoyed and appreciated. We are looking forward to welcoming The Sycamore Trust into school again in the future.
