William Ford marks World Book Day with reading, creativity, and financial literacy

Collective Worship during World Book Day

William Ford kicked off World Book Day with an inspiring start as teachers and students read excerpts from their favourite books. This engaging beginning set the tone for a celebration that highlighted the joy of reading, creativity, and community spirit.

Throughout the morning, Years 4, 5, and 6 took part in the National Literacy Trust’s World Book Day and Footy Quiz, testing their knowledge of literature and football in a fun, educational format. Meanwhile, Year 3 got creative by designing bookmarks and writing letters to their favourite book characters, explaining how those characters demonstrated kindness and helped their friends in the stories they read.

All the students also enjoyed an online author talk, with Years 3 and 4 hearing from Serena Patel, and Years 5 and 6 tuning in to Benjamin Dean. Their talks featured wonderful character descriptions and imaginative ideas, and pupils were excited for the chance to win one of the authors’ books.

To wrap up the festivities, students of all year groups participated in a special afternoon workshop on financial literacy. They also took the opportunity to write letters to their favourite authors, sharing their thoughts on how these literary heroes have inspired them both in and out of the classroom.
