Extreme Day Trip - Year Three pupils visit France for the day
Extreme Day Tripping – Year 3 Style!
Across the country, there are groups of people who enjoy something called 'Extreme Day Tripping' – visiting a foreign country for just one day! It’s a fun and cost-effective way to travel, avoiding baggage charges and overnight accommodation. Our very own Headteacher, Mr Huntingford, and his family are amongst those who love to explore Europe this way.
Excitingly, our Year Three pupils were able to embark on their very own extreme day trip last week! Leaving William Ford at 6:15am, they began their adventure with breakfast on the ferry, followed by a trip out on deck to watch the UK disappear and France slowly come into view across the water.
Their first stop was a rural French bakery, where pupils took part in bread and croissant making and enjoyed delicious freshly baked baguettes for lunch. From there, they travelled to a goat's cheese farm, where they engaged with the animals, sampled goat’s cheese and apple juice, and even made their own goat head models out of bread!
The day ended with dinner on the ferry as the sun set beautifully over the sea. Pupils then experienced the unique view of the sea and horizon in complete darkness before catching sight of the Port of Dover once more. They returned to school by 10:15pm – tired, but full of stories and memories.
It was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience for all involved – especially for those pupils who had never been abroad before. A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers who supported this incredible trip!
