Exploring language, poetry and rap.
Yesterday, we had an amazing day as Christian Foley, a famous poet, rapper and educator, visited our school and worked with every year group. Christian has appeared alongside big names like Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), John Legend and 50 Cent, and is known for making poetry and rapping fun and exciting for children. Throughout the day, Christian held energetic workshops full of games, freestyling and wordplay, showing everyone how to stretch their vocabulary, rhyme creatively and build confidence. The highlight was his all-school assembly where children joined him in performing their own rap verses. Every single pupil had a really, really great time and learned lots about using rhythm and language in new, imaginative ways!
The visit has left us all feeling super inspired, so next year we’ll be carrying on this exciting work in our literacy lessons. Pupils will use rap, poetry and freestyle to grow their vocabulary and writing skills, creating their own performances and sharing their work. Christian has helped us see that words can be powerful and fun — and we can’t wait to explore this further. Thank you to Christian Foley for making such a big impression on our school community. Watch this space for some fantastic poems and raps from our very own William Ford superstars!
