Year Four
We have had another busy week in Year 4. The children enjoyed their Christmas dinner on Wednesday. It was great to see so many different Christmas jumpers.
What we have learnt about this week
In English, the children have been looking at a range of persuasive letters. They have explored the key features and language techniques that make such writing effective.
In maths, our focus has continued to be on perimeter. The students have been investigating how to calculate the missing sides of rectilinear shapes. This hands-on approach has allowed them to apply their understanding in practical ways, enhancing their problem-solving skills.
In history, we turned our attention to the fascinating archaeological discovery of Skara Brae in the Orkneys. This incredible site has provided us with valuable insights into life during the Neolithic period, and the children have thoroughly enjoyed uncovering the stories of our ancient ancestors. The children have also been lucky enough to participate in a live stream hosted by the London Museum where they have investigated life in the late Neolithic moving into the Bronze Age. It was a great experience for the children.
Lastly, in Religious Education, we have learned about worship in the mandir within Hinduism. The children have gained a deeper understanding of this important aspect of the faith and its significance to the community.
What we will learn about next week
In English, we will start an exciting project where children will be writing persuasive letters addressed to the president of South Africa in the late 1980s, shortly after the publication of "Journey to Jo'burg." This activity will not only enhance their writing skills but also allow them to express their thoughts on apartheid and suggest actions to alleviate the situation. It promises to be a thought-provoking experience, blending history with creativity.
In Maths, we will revisit the essential topic of multiplication, specifically focusing on strategies to multiply by 10 and 100. This foundational knowledge is vital for the children as they advance in their mathematical understanding.
In Science, we will be exploring the fascinating concept of states of matter and how materials change from one state to another. To make this lesson even more enjoyable, we may involve some chocolate, ensuring a sweet learning experience.
